Anaheim doubles money available to help weatherize homes – Orange County Register


The city is increasing its funding of a program that helps residents with weatherizing their homes. It will also expand who is eligible for assistance.

Going forward, $1.5 million will be available, up from $600,000; the City Council approved the increase last month. The city partners with the Southern California Gas Company on the program, with the company arranging the contractors that go out and do improvements.

Depending on income levels, eligible residents can get help with smart thermometers, tune ups for air conditioning units, duct sealing, repairing or replacing furnaces and water heaters, weather stripping and other conservation improvements.

It is expected that about 2,000 customers – renters and homeowners – will be helped by the expanded program, up from about 800.

In four years some 1,500 have been helped with projects, saving an estimated $265,000 a year on utility…
