Boris Johnson vows long-term UK support for overseas territories hit by Irma

British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson pledged long-term support on Tuesday (September 12) to the British territories in the Caribbean hit by Hurricane Irma.
After reviewing the aid operation underway at a British base in Barbados, Johnson defended his government’s response one of the most devastating storms ever to hit the Caribbean.
“Most fair-minded people,” he said, would acknowledge Britain’s biggest military deployment since the intervention in Libya in 2011. “You’ve now got a thousand troops in the area, I think more than 50 police officers, more police officers coming in tonight, huge quantities of supplies coming in.”
