MURRIETA – Vista Murrieta took on its third straight heavyweight Friday night against Orange Lutheran, and the Broncos stood toe-to-toe for most of the first half before falling to the Lancers, 40-20.
The Broncos simply had no answer in stopping Orange Lutheran quarterback Ryan Hilinski, as the junior threw for 505 yards, completing 29 of 42 passes and four touchdowns.
For Vista Murrieta (0-3), it was the first time it has lost three consecutive games on the field since 2004.
The two teams combined for five first quarter touchdowns which ended with Orange Lutheran leading 20-13.
Hilinski got the Lancers on the board with a 17-yard touchdown to Logan Loya, but the Broncos answered right back as Khalil Shakir sprinted 56 yards for a score.
Orange Lutheran (3-0) took a 13-6 lead on its next possession when Hilinski connected with Josiah Hawkins on a 25-yard touchdown.
