SANTA ANA – A 35-year-old man pleaded no contest Tuesday to setting his family’s house ablaze and was immediately sentenced to a year in jail.
Jose Luis Martinez Jr., who has been in custody since March 2, was also put on probation for five years.
On the day of the March 2 blaze, the defendant’s mother won a temporary restraining order that included an order to move out of the house for her son, who she said became verbally abusive when confronted about abusing drugs in the home and bringing over friends she suspected were also doing drugs there, according to court papers.
The restraining order included eight other family members at 1002 W. Washington Ave., according to court papers.
The mother said she allowed her son and family to move in two years ago when they lost their home.
